Lapsang souchong is a black tea originally from the Wuyi region of the Chinese province of Fujian. It is sometimes referred to as smoked tea. The unique flavor of Lapsang Souchong is produced by laying the leaves out on bamboo trays and allowing smoke from pinewood to permeate through them.

Flavour and aroma

Lapsang souchong's flavour is strong and smoky, similar to the smell of a campfire or of Latakia pipe tobacco. The unique aroma of lapsang souchong is due to a variety of chemical compounds which could hardly found in other teas.

Love the smoky flavor. It has a slight whisky smell. This works for me as I enjoy single malts. My wife hates both, though, so beware.

Description:

Black tea is a type of tea that is more oxidized than oolong, green and white teas. All four types are made from leaves of the shrub (or small tree) Camellia sinensis. Black tea is generally stronger in flavor than the less oxidized teas.

Generally, 2.25 grams of tea per 200 ml of water, or about a teaspoon of black tea per 8 oz. cup, should be used. Unlike green teas, which turn bitter when brewed at higher temperatures, black tea should be steeped in freshly boiled water, around 90℃ to 95℃. When the tea has brewed long enough to suit the tastes of the drinker, it should be strained while serving.

If stronger flavor is desired, add more tea, not time. Highlighted teas will taste bitter if infused longer than the suggested time.

If brewing 2 or more teas together, follow instructions for the tea with the shortest time and lowest temperature.
